On January 23rd, the 12-to-24 Collaborative in partnership with the City of Frederick welcomed the National League of Cities (NLC) to Frederick for an engaging and insightful professional development session. The event, held at New Spire Arts, brought together over 40 members of the Collaborative, including youth service providers, nonprofit leaders, and community stakeholders, all dedicated to improving outcomes for young people in Frederick County.
The session focused on exploring the definition of Opportunity Youth (OY)—young people aged 16 to 24 who are not in school or employed—and how the 12-to-24 Collaborative can better identify, reach, and support this important population. Through robust discussions and interactive exercises, participants delved into strategies for improving programming, accessibility, and engagement with Opportunity Youth.
One of the key takeaways from the session was the importance of data-driven storytelling. NLC experts emphasized how effective data collection and analysis can help tell the story of our impact, demonstrate community needs, and support fundraising and advocacy efforts. Participants left the session with actionable insights and a renewed commitment to enhancing the lives of Frederick’s youth.
